Traveling from Chengdu to the Tibetan Plateau involves a significant change in altitude. It is crucial to rest and acclimatize, especially during the first few days in Lhasa, before heading toward the higher altitudes of EBC.

The best time for a tour to EBC is during the spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October), when the weather is clear and visibility is best. The tent guesthouses are closed during the cold winter months (November–March), and accommodation is restricted to guesthouses in a nearby village.

Detail Itinerary of Chengdu to Everest Base Camp Tour

Day 01: Arrival in Chengdu

Receive you at Chengdu airport and drive to your hotel in downtown. Wander around Chengdu after checking in hotel. Stay overnight in Chengdu.

Day 02:

Breakfast and visit Panda Breeding and Research Center. Chengdu is the major overland gateway to Tibet and home to giant pandas. After completing our visit, we will board the overnight train to Xining. Our local travel guide will escort you to the train station, and the comfortable sleeping arrangements onboard will ensure you have a restful journey.

Day 03: Train to Xining and Take a Night Train to Tibet.

Upon arrival in Xining, your local guide will pick you up at the railway station and take you to have a breakfast in a local restaurant to enjoy the traditional foods.

After breakfast, you will visit Ta’er Monastery (Kumbum Monastery), the birthplace of Tsongkhapa, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. We will explore the Dongguan Mosque and explore the Muslim Quarter, which is one of the oldest mosques in the western part of China.

After the visit, you will get back and prepare for your Tibet train journey. The guide and driver will take you to the railway station for your train to Tibet. It is suggested to get to the railway station around 1 hour before departure. You need to present your passport and the Tibet Travel Permit to board the train.

Day 04: Travel on the Tibet Train/Flight and Arrive in Lhasa

Complete the lifetime Tibet train journey and welcome to Tibet. The journey is beautiful scenery with endless land of snow, vast desert, boundless grassland, snow-capped mountains, and stunning lakes will continually appear and strongly attract your heart. After arriving in Lhasa, you will receive and transfer to hotel. After settling into your hotel, take some time to rest and adjust to the high altitude. In the evening, your guide will provide travel instructions, and introduce your group members. Stay overnight in Lhasa.

Day 05: Lhasa Tour

Breakfast and In the morning, you’ll explore the largest monastery in Tibet-Drepung Monastery, which was once the home to over 10,000 monks. In the afternoon, you’ll head to Sera Monastery, another of the ‘great three’ Gelug monasteries of Tibet, to witness the famous Tibetan Monks Debate (15:00 – 17:00, from Monday to Saturday). After today’s tour, enjoy dinner with your group members.

Day 06: Lhasa Tour

Breakfast and visit Potala Palace and Longwangtan Park in the morning. In the afternoon, you will head to the heart of Tibetan religion-the Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Street, where you can do kora, a religious circle of a building or mountain with pilgrims and locals, and explore the old market-Barkhor street. Stay overnight in Lhasa.

Day 07: Lhasa to Shigatse via Gyantse(3900m, 360 km, 6 hours)

Breakfast and begin the overland journey along the Friendship Highway. The drive features stunning mountain passes, including the Gampala Pass, with views of the turquoise Yamdrok Tso lake. You will arrive in Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city, for the night.

Day 08: Shigatse (3850m) to Everest Base Camp (5000m)

Breakfast and continue the scenic drive, crossing the Gawula Pass for panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest. Arrive at Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, where you can see a magnificent sunset over Everest. Stay overnight at Everest Base Camp.

Day 09: EBC to Sakya via Dinggye and return to Shigatse

Wake early to witness the sunrise over Mount Everest. Take an eco-bus or walk from Rongbuk to Everest Base Camp (North). Return to Rongbuk and begin the drive back to Shigatse via Sakya.

Day 10: Shigatse to Lhasa

Breakfast and visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery-seat of Panchen Lama. This is the spiritual home of the Tibetan people in Shigatse, housing the world’s largest statue of Maitreya Buddha.Later, you’ll return to Lhasa along the Yarlung Tsangpo River. Finally, you will arrive in Lhasa. Enjoy leisure time wandering freely through Barkhor Street, where you can shop for gifts to bring back home for your family. Stay overnight in Lhasa.

Day 11: Lhasa to Chengdu

Today marks the end of your Tibet tour. Please make sure to verify your departure flight details with our guide in advance. And your guide will take you to the airport to get your flight to Chengdu.

We decided to go for Pikey Peak Trek, unfortunately we couldnt reach the peak due to our unfamiliarity with the cold weather. Great day trip from Dhuhikhel to Namobuddha with our guide Jitendra.Initially a bit strenuous as we had to climb 1000 steps and were rewarded with a great view of the Himalayan mountains. We continued through villages with a lot of agriculture. Panauti is a very old town. Impressive. We did the Manaslu + Tsum Valley Trek including some sightseeing days in Kathmandu with Mission Eco Trek and what should I say - it was a perfectly organized trip and we really enjoyed it.Already the planning from Germany was totally easy and unproblematic. We got in contact with Jitendra and within some days we got back a perfect plan for our trip. In general the contact with Jitendra was from the beginning to the end well organized, professional but at the same time super friendly and caring. He answered to all our messages super fast and also on-site during the trips in Kathmandu he adjusted everything to our wishes and always made sure we are feeling well. For our actual trip to Manaslu we had Sundar as a guide and Sanukanchha as a porter. Both of them were a really good team together and we enjoyed the time with them and felt always perfectly taking care of. Especially Sundar was super kind, always calm and no matter which problem we had - He always found a solution. During the trip he made sure we are fine during the hikes, gave the right walking speed for us, organized the best rooms and also made sure they are ok for us and never left a wish open. In the evenings he always explained what is the plan for the next days and checked if it is fine for us. Besides that he shared with us his enormous knowledge about the mountains and the way of life in there - you could really feel how much he enjoys being in the mountains.All in all I totally recommend booking directly with Mission Eco Trek. First of all the organisation of the trip by Jitendra is stress-free, flexible and super friendly. We had a wonderful experience with Mission Eco Trek during our Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley trek. Already before we came to Nepal, we knew we were in good hands. The owner Jitendra provided a detailed itinerary and packing list, and he promptly answered all our questions. It was his idea to include Tsum Valley in our plan as we had enough time and it was absolutely worth it.We started the trip with a two-day tour of Kathmandu getting to know the main sights before heading off on the trek. The trek itself was well planned but also allowed for some flexibility. Our guide Sundar was fantastic! He kept a slow and steady pace, so that we could keep up, and shared facts about the surrounding mountains during our breaks. Each evening, he briefed us about the next day’s route, making sure we were well prepared and feel fit for another day of trekking.  Verified Fantastic 4 day Pikey Peak trek
A fantastic experience from start to finish. Jitendra was helpful, organised and friendly, very easy to work with. Our guide Sundar was super! He arranged everything very well for us and made sure we were always happy. He was so kind and a genuinely lovely man. The short trek itself was worth the long bumpy drive from Kathmandu. We stayed in simple, clean tea houses all which had really good food. We were fortunate to have the most amazing views from Pikey peak for sunrise on the 3rd day. We opted for a longer walk on day 3 to get us back to kathmandu earlier on day 4. Don't hesitate to book if you're short on time but still want to see amazing views of the Himalayas (weather permitting)!
