Visa and Permits
All foreign nationals must obtain a Chinese Group Visa, which is handled by your tour operator. Individual Chinese visas are not valid for this route if entering via Nepal.
Tibet Travel Permit (TTP)
This permit to enter Tibet is also arranged by your tour operator. If traveling through Nepal, your tour operator must secure a Restricted Area Permit for regions like Simikot or Rasuwagadhi.
Preparation and health
The tour reaches very high altitudes, requiring special precautions. Ensure your itinerary includes sufficient time for acclimatization to prevent high-altitude sickness. Get a thorough medical examination before the trip. Carry an ample supply of personal medication, including reserves for high-altitude sickness. The parikrama is strenuous. If you are not completely fit, it is advisable to avoid it.
Kailash Mansarovar Tour Cost
The cost of Kailash Mansarovar Tour price will be USD 2650 per person for a group more than 25 people. For a private group of 10 to 16 people, the cost will be USD 3500 per person.
The visa fee cost depends on your country of origin. You will need to view your original passport for the application. We will apply for the Tibet Travel Permit before you arrive in Nepal and apply for a Tibet China Group Visa we need your original passport.
The travel permit cost is already included in our package. We do all the necessary official work for all the permits and passes. We only need your original passport for China group visa and we will do all official work. We will do all the formalities and arrange a Tibet group visa for you.
Extra Cost than the Kailash Mansarovar Tour Package
Here are some extra costs you need to pay which is not included in the package cost.
Meals in Kathmandu
Breakfast Lunch and Dinner are included in your staying hotel at Kathmandu. But while you go out for tour or other things and you eat in out restaurant you need to pay for your meals.
Local porter for Kailash Parikrama
If you want a local porter for Kailash Parikrama Kora, it will cost you from Chinese Yuan 1300 to 1500 per person for one porter. Your porter carries your small day pack, about 5 kg.
Hiring a Horse
If you want to take a horse for your Parikrama, you must pay from Chinese Yuan 4500 to 5000. The horseman, who will also help you carry your small day pack (a maximum of 5 kg, covers this cost.
Ambulance Van Dirapuk to Darchen
If you are not feeling well and wanted to return from Dirapuk to Darchen on second day of Kora or same day after you arrive there the Ambulance sharing cost will come RMB 900 per person and you need to pay the hotel in Darchen for extra night.
Important Note
Please think twice before you book the Horse and Porter services once you book the amount is not refunded, if you book and say after 1 hour we don’t want to go money will not be refunded. You can make decision for porter and horse service in Mansarovar lake or in Darchen to our guide.
Visiting Astapath
Astapath offers breathtaking views of Mount Kailash, This spiritual journey, blending awe-inspiring landscapes with deep religious significance, We can only visit if allowed by Chinese Authority there and you can hire a Jeep from Darchen it cost you RMB 500 to 650 per person extra.
Hotel Upgrade in Darchen
It will cost you extra to upgrade a hotel in Darchen to a 4-star or other specific hotel. On the tour, we will give you a 2/3 star hotel and if you want to upgrade to 4 stars, it will cost you about USD 60 per person.
Fail to finish Parikrama
If, due to health issues, tiredness, or other reasons, you need to go back from Derapuk to Darchen without a Dolmala pass, you need to pay for an extra night in the Darchen Hotel, as we have already paid for the Zuthulpuk hotel and can’t get a return. However, if you decide not to do Parikrama and stay in Darchen, our cost covers it. Hotel room costs vary from basic to good, from RMB 400 to 600 per room.
Kailash Charan Sparsh
Mount Kailash Charan Sparsh spans approximately 7 km from Derapuk Monastery to the base of the mountain’s northern face. The usual trek route lasts three days, but adding the Charan Sparsh makes the Kora 4 days. All May group 2025 were not allowed for the Charan Sparsh from the Chinese Authority, that’s why we have remove it from our itinerary rather than to put false Commitment and information to our customer. If it will happened and Chinese Authority give permission to visit there We will add in itinerary but as per now, we are following the normal itinerary.
Booking Kailash Mansarovar Tour
Generally, it takes around 7 to 14 working days to process the Tibet Travel Permit. Given the additional travel permits required for a trip to Mount Kailash, the processing time could be longer than for ordinary Tibet tours. It is recommended to book your Mount Kailash tour at least 30 days in advance to allow sufficient time for processing all required paper applications.
Necessary travel documents for Kailash Mansarovar
First, you need to apply for a Chinese Group Visa from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Make sure you don’t have a Chinese Visa, or your former visa will be canceled once the group visa is issued.
Then, you also need the Tibet Travel Permit to enter the Tibet Autonomous Region from Nepal. Some other local travel documents, like the Alien’s travel permit for visiting the Mount Everest area, are also required for the overland journey from Kathmandu to Lhasa.
We’ll take care of Tibet Travel Permit, as well as other local travel documents as part of our tour package. Simply follow our guidance, and there’s no need to worry about the process.
Applying Chinese Group Visa
Whether you already have a Chinese visa or not, you need to apply for a group visa through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu if you are going to enter Tibet from Nepal.
Our local office in Kathmandu provides visa assistance services. After booking your Nepal to Tibet tour with us, it is suggested to visit our Kathmandu office at least 4 working days before you enter Tibet.
You need to provide the original passport with 6 months of validity. Our travel consultants will arrange time reasonably and assist in processing visa matters to ensure that you can successfully obtain a group visa. The visa fee and service fee need to be paid on-site.
Important Notice: If you already hold a Chinese visa, it is not recommended to enter Tibet from Nepal as your original Chinese visa will be canceled due to the issuance of a group visa.
Processing of Tibet Travel Permit
Once you book your Kathmandu to Lhasa tour with us, simply provide scanned copies of your Chinese Visa and a valid passport (with at least 6 months of validity). Generally, it takes 7-14 working days to process the Tibet Travel Permit. Our Tibetan local guide will send the permit to you once you cross the border at Gyirong Port.
The best time for Kailash Mansarovar Tour
Mount Kailash is accessible year-round, excluding harsh winter conditions. The best months for clear mountain views and pleasant weather are May, June, September, and October.
For a rich cultural experience, you can visit Mount Kailash during the Saga Dawa Festival in May or June (April 15 in the Tibetan Calendar), to experience how the pilgrims celebrate the birth, enlightenment, and nirvana of the founder of Buddhism, Sakyamuni. This is a rare opportunity to immerse in the strong religious atmosphere and join the kora with devoted pilgrims.
The length of Kailash Trek
The trek around Mount Kailash, also known as the Kailash kora, typically takes 3 days.
Day 1: Darchen to Dirapuk Monastery (Trek 13km)
Day 2: Dirapuk Monastery to Dzutrpuk (Trek 24km)
Day 3: Dzutrpuk to Darchen (Trek 7km)
Among the three days, the second day is the most difficult as you need to pass through the Dromala Pass, the highest point on this trail at 5630 meters above sea level.
