Booking Lhasa Tour
To ensure a smooth journey, it is recommended to book the tour at least 15-20 days before departure. Additionally, early booking provides the opportunity to enjoy early bird discounts. The earlier you book, the better prepared you’ll be, and you won’t be troubled in a rush.
Necessary travel documents for a short Lhasa City Tour
To visit Lhasa, you need to have both Chinese Visa and Tibet Travel Permit in advance. We’ll take care of the Tibet Travel Permit as part of our tour package. Simply follow our guidance, and there’s no need to worry about the process.
Time to Get Tibet Travel Permit
Once you book your Lhasa to Kathmandu tour with us, simply provide scanned copies of your Chinese Visa and a valid passport (with at least 6 months of validity). If you traveling with a work visa, you will need proof of employment in China, and a study visa requires proof of your study in China.
Generally, it takes 7-14 working days to process the Tibet Travel Permit. Once the permit is successfully issued, we will mail it to your address in China 3-5 days before your Tibet trip, ensuring you can smoothly board the train or flight to Tibet.
Altitude sickness on Tibet Lhasa Tour
The altitude of Lhasa is 3650 meters above sea level. If you are visiting Lhasa for the first time, there is a potential risk of experiencing altitude sickness. But don’t worry. Following our itinerary, the sightseeing visits start on the second day, allowing you enough time to acclimate to the high altitude upon your arrival.
It’s advisable to avoid strenuous exercise upon your arrival in Lhasa. Instead, take the opportunity to rest in the hotel on the first day. Remember to stay hydrated by drinking more water and minimizing alcohol and smoking.
Best time for a Short Lhasa Tour
Lhasa is a top destination for year-round travel in Tibet. Even in winter, the daytime temperature hovers around 10°C, not as cold as many people might think. The best months to visit Lhasa are from April to October when you can enjoy the most pleasant weather and temperatures.
Summer, particularly from July to August, marks the peak season for Tibet tourism. During this time, both domestic and overseas tourists flock to most attractions in Lhasa. Barkhor Street may be filled with tourists, creating a lively and dynamic atmosphere.
August, in particular, coincides with the Shoton Festival, offering a unique opportunity to experience Tibetan festival culture. If you plan to visit Lhasa during the Shoton Festival (August 23, 2025), make the reservation as early as possible
On the other hand, winter is the best time to experience the tranquility of Lhasa at the best price. With fewer crowds, you can explore sites, monasteries, and ancient streets at your own pace. Many hotels and flights to Lhasa also offer significant discounts in winter. Moreover, from November to February, most attractions in Lhasa have ticket-free policies.
The clothes for a Lhasa City small group tour
No matter when you visit Lhasa and nearby Drak Yerpa, you need to prepare warm clothing for the cold night at the Tibetan Plateau. To ensure comfort, opt for warm, windproof outerwear, and consider layering to adapt to temperature fluctuations. In summer, lightweight clothing is suitable, while during spring and autumn, it’s advisable to wear at least three layers (undershirt, sweater, outerwear). In winter, prioritize warmer clothing with wind protection. Additionally, due to strong ultraviolet rays, don’t forget to wear sunglasses and a hat.
